Crop Rotation

Crop rotation means not planting the same plant family in the same spot year after year. This prevents disease buildup, pest accumulation, and soil nutrient depletion.

A Simple 4-Year Rotation

  • Year 1: Heavy feeders (tomatoes, cabbage, corn) – freshly composted soil.
  • Year 2: Medium feeders (carrots, onions, beetroot) – benefit from residual nutrients.
  • Year 3: Light feeders & herbs (lettuce, radishes, herbs) – soil is leaner, which is fine.
  • Year 4: Nitrogen fixers (beans, peas) – replenish nitrogen, then add compost and restart.
  • 4-Year Rotation Cycle

PlotMate tracks your planting history per bed. When you use 'Plan New Year', it archives your layout and shows orange warnings if you place the same plant or category in a spot where it grew before.
